Bioeconomy is one of the fastest-growing sectors in Europe. It brings together all activities related to the sustainable use of biological resources—from agriculture and forestry to industries that produce energy, materials, and value-added products. The goal is clear: greater efficiency, less waste, and higher competitiveness.
Within the framework of the European Green Deal, the European Union is actively investing in the bioeconomy as a strategic sector capable of delivering economic growth and resource independence based on innovation and sustainable technologies.
Bulgaria has significant potential in this direction—favorable natural conditions, well-established agricultural traditions, and a developing scientific infrastructure. The Plovdiv region is emerging as a key area where science, industry, and entrepreneurship can converge.
For this reason, in 2024, the “Regional Bioeconomy Hub – Plovdiv” Association was established—a platform that brings together academic institutions, business organizations, and local authorities with a shared goal: to stimulate sustainable innovation and new economic models based on bioresources.
